• Brazil top Group D after emphatic win, Japan eliminated
  • Rodrigo scores five goals for the South American champions
  • Brazil will face holders Portugal in the quarter-finals on 4 May

Brazil made it three wins from three to finish top of Group D at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup after a convincing 9-3 victory over Japan.

Having never lost a group match at a Beach Soccer World Cup, the South American champions maintained that record with another impressive scoring display that brought Japan’s campaign at Bahamas 2017 to an end.

It was Rodrigo that led Brazil to Tuesday’s win with five goals, while his team-mate Mauricinho contributed with a brace, as Japan were unable to match Brazil’s attacking prowess.

With the result, Brazil cruise into Thursday’s quarter-finals with a 100 per cent record and looking well placed to win the title for a fifth time.
